Environment & Handling

Basic handling and environment shape soundness.

Turnout, footing, workload progression, and seasonal transitions influence joints, tendons, hooves, and behavior. Sudden changes often cause more issues than steady work. Providing our horses as much opportunity as possible to move over varied terrain, will support both mental and physical health. Movement is medicine!
Beyond that, having a healthy relationship with being handled by humans is necessary for safety and longterm health.

Inside the member Classroom, we expand on:

• The rider’s influence on movement, behavior, and soundness
• Environmental impact on nervous system regulation
• Individual temperament and elemental tendencies
• Walking and groundwork as diagnostic tools
• Subtle handling patterns that shape long-term outcomes
• Awareness, clarity, and relational communication

  • Starting with our horses when they’re young is the best thing we can do! If you don’t have that opportunity, apply the same concept with your horse, whatever their age, until it becomes solid and safe feeling for them.

Chiara and Zak take us through this with their young colt!
